It’s finally here!! The backdoor pilot for Wayward Sisters has arrived, và with it comes a lot of anticipation và therefore a lot of pressure. And yet, I knew we were in for something special when the recap gave me chills. After “Bloodlines” failed years ago, I think this show has finally done it: They’ve found the spin-off that works.

We start the hour by catching up with Claire, who’s been on the road hunting by herself. Và from the looks of it, she’s doing all right. After she saves a young girl from a group of werewolves và utters the epic line, “I kill monsters. That’s who the hell I am,” she gets a điện thoại tư vấn from Jody. As Jody tells her, “It’s Sam and Dean. They’re missing. They were on a hunting trip & I haven’t heard from them for a few days.” & just like Supernatural kicked off all those years ago, so too does Wayward Sisters.
Claire then returns home to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, to find that Jody is now a hugger và Patience has been staying with her for a few days. The women come together, along with Alex, to lớn listen khổng lồ Sam’s last voicemail to lớn Jody. He explains that they’re looking for Kaia Nieves & that they think she could be the key lớn saving their mom. As for where Kaia is now, Alex tells Claire that they’ve checked every database they can think of. They’ve got nothing.
Alex then leaves for work — she’s got the night shift at the hospital where she’s a nurse — và Jody tells Claire about Patience’s vision. Only, it’s not what we originally thought. Patience didn’t see Jody die. She saw Claire die.
But, of course, Claire isn’t one khổng lồ just believe a vision from someone she’s never met. No, no, she’s far too stubborn for that, và that only adds lớn Jody’s bức xúc levels.
Completely ignoring her fate, Claire heads to lớn the hospital khổng lồ pay Alex a visit. Claire wants access lớn the hospital’s computer system, but Alex assures her that she’s already checked everything. But when she searches for new Jane Does, she gets a hit. Kaia was just picked up. In fact, she’s just down the hall.
Claire goes lớn introduce herself lớn Kaia, but Kaia isn’t exactly in the mood for new friends. She tries to leave the hospital only khổng lồ be stopped by some freaky boss khủng from the Bad Place. Thankfully, Jody and Claire are there to save the day, after which they take the quái thú back khổng lồ the house so Alex can perform an autopsy on this Predator/Mad Max-looking thing.
While Alex does that, Claire sits down with Kaia. Kaia explains that she’s seen the monsters before but only in her dreams. They travel in packs, and once they pick up your scent, they don’t stop coming after you. In other words, it’s all bad news. But at least Claire and Kaia get lớn bond a bit & swap scar stories.
Claire then takes Kaia in to lớn see Jody và explain that she’s a dreamwalker. She believes Sam & Dean are in the Bad Place, and if these monsters are here, it means the door between worlds is still open.
Speaking of Sam & Dean, they’re currently roasting a lizard over a campfire because, well, life in the Bad Place kinda sucks. I did love this interaction though:
*Dean takes a bite into the lizard meat*Sam: “Don’t tell me it tastes lượt thích chicken.”Dean: “No, Sam. It’s a lizard. It tastes lượt thích a lizard.”
The guys claim they’ve been looking for the door out of this universe, but it’s been two days & they’re worried it has closed. Their other big concern? Those very loud footsteps that sound lượt thích they’re getting closer. Although, what they should really be concerned about is the hooded figure who ultimately knocks them both out with his or her spear and ties them to a tree before, as Dean puts it, ringing the dinner bell for the King Kong-esque boss we keep hearing. (Next: Someone doesn’t make it out alive)
Back in our world, Patience has decided she’s seen enough. She’s packing her things & running back trang chủ because she’s not a fighter. Alex tries khổng lồ explain that she doesn’t have khổng lồ be. “We help in other ways,” Alex says, but it’s hard for Patience to help when Claire won’t even believe her. But just before Patience can drive away, she gets another vision: a bunch of those Bad Place monsters busting into Jody’s house.
Patience runs back inside và convinces the women to leave. From the car, Claire watches the surveillance cameras at the house as Patience’s vision comes true.
After a little time on the road, the women pull over khổng lồ meet up with their backup: The D-Train!! Donna Hanscum pulls up with a full arsenal of weapons in the back of her truck. She’s come bearing all kinds of knives và guns, which leads to lớn this:
Patience: “Why bởi vì you have all this?”Donna: “I’m from Minnesota.”
Kaia then tells them more about the last time she saw Sam and Dean, và they figure out which shipyard she’s talking about. Jody & Donna decide to lớn go check it out while Claire stays behind to lớn protect the girls. The good news is that Donna & Jody find the shipyard và the door lớn the Bad Place. The bad news is they also find a bunch of those creepy monsters who’ve come through the door.
So while Jody and Donna try not to lớn die, Claire confides in Kaia that Patience’s vision has changed things for her. It’s one thing to think about dying, và it’s another to lớn know you’re going khổng lồ die. For once, Claire is willing to lớn sit back và let Jody handle it. Except for the fact that this is Sam và Dean, và that means that Claire can’t sit this one out, not completely. Kaia offers to go with Claire, but when Jody doesn’t pick up her phone, they all head lớn the shipyard.
Claire uses the flamethrower to lớn kill one of the monsters, but the moment she sees the door lớn the Bad Place, she takes off. Jody tries khổng lồ stop her, but the door is getting smaller. They don’t have much time. “I need lớn save Sam và Dean, và you have to let me,” Claire says, lớn which Jody simply responds, “I know.” & when Donna & company get overrun with monsters & need Jody’s help, Jody tells Claire khổng lồ go. Claire then promises khổng lồ protect Kaia, và together, they head to the Bad Place.
What happens next is something I wrote in my notes as “general badassery,” as Jody, Donna, Alex, và Patience all work to kill the monsters. (Patience kills one!) As for Claire and Kaia, they find Sam & Dean and free them just in time. Just as they get back khổng lồ the door, that hooded ninja returns và throws her spear at Claire. But Kaia steps in the way.
As that King Kong-esque being roars overhead, Claire has khổng lồ say goodbye to the friend she promised khổng lồ protect & I AM SO BUMMED. I really, really liked Kaia. But I will say this: As much as I hate losing Kaia, the fact that they were willing lớn kill someone is a major reason why this backdoor pilot worked.
After Dean pulls Claire back through the door, it shuts, & suddenly Patience’s vision comes through. It was never Claire who died. It was always Kaia. What Patience saw was Jody comforting Claire in the aftermath.
The next day, the boys say goodbye. As Sam tells Jody that the door being mở cửa for as long as it was means there will be more freaky monsters, Jody tells him, “We will handle it. You guys take care of the world. We got Sioux Falls covered.” I’ll let Dean take this one: “Damn right you do.”
Inside, Jody then goes lớn Claire, who finally understands Jody’s need lớn have a plan before barging into a hunt. Jody tells her she doesn’t have to vì chưng any of this alone. “When you’re ready, if you want, we’re all here,” Jody says.
Claire then joins her family for dinner as her voice-over explains: “I came back lớn Sioux Falls to lớn save Sam & Dean Winchester, & I did. No, we did. We saved Sam & Dean. All of these amazing women, my family. They don’t know it yet — they think I’m staying because I’m broken, but I’m staying because I need them, my family, my army. The thing that killed Kaia is still out there. Và I don’t care if I have khổng lồ tear another hole in the universe, we’re going lớn find it. Và I’m going lớn kill it.” Oh, and that thing that killed Kaia? The hooded ninja? Well, it just came through a rift into our world. And IT’S KAIA’S DOPPELGANGER.
So there you have it: a spin-off with a wonderful set of what we love about Supernatural plus a different, female energy, plus a heartbreaking death, plus a shocking twist. I’m in. What about you?
Supernatural Season 13 Episode 10 Review: Wayward Sisters
The whole Bloodlines storyline had great potential, but it never struck the right chord with fans. There was never in real investment with the character they introduced, but thankfully they turned things around quickly a decision khổng lồ focus on someone the fandom truly loves.
While I have never been the biggest fan of Claire, I enjoyed the way she just barged in on the monsters with guns blazing to save the girl.
She has grown as a hunter, but I understood where Jody was coming from. Jody sees Claire as her daughter, & she doesn"t want khổng lồ see anything terrible happen to lớn her.
Furthermore, if I had a woman come to my home, whose known lớn have pretty accurate visions, tell me someone I care about is going to die I"d lock them in their room. Claire"s been extremely stubborn, but she should have given Patience a chance khổng lồ explain things a little bit more instead of just shutting her down completely.
Was anyone else having visions of Sam and Dean when it came to Claire & Alex? I found myself enjoying the back & forth bantering between the two of them. I was pleased to lớn see Alex putting her life together, and trying to địa chỉ some bit of normalcy khổng lồ her life; though we all knew it wasn"t going to lớn last very long. Poor Alex.
It was incredibly convenient Kaia would be the Jane Doe khổng lồ show up at the very hospital Alex worked at, but hey, we gotta move the storyline somehow. At least she was able to lớn offer up some clues as to what kind of world Sam and Dean had fallen into.
I wasn"t shocked lớn see Claire and Kaia bonding. Claire has been through a lot through the years, & it wasn"t difficult to lớn see some of Claire in Kaia. Kaia was a scared young woman who had no one to protect her -- essentially she was Claire from a few years ago when she wanted no help from Sam, Dean, and Castiel.
Who else loved when Patience proved to Claire her visions were real?
Even though the house was destroyed, it was wonderful seeing Patience prove she wasn"t a fake. I"m looking forward lớn them fleshing out her character more because her powers have proven to be extremely useful lớn everyone. Who doesn"t want a psychic on their team?
Of course, my favorite moment had to be when Donna showed up. There"s just something about Donna which makes me smile. Case in point, when she goes into her trunk to get something from her arsenal, her response for having all those guns was because she is from Minnesota.
You can"t help but laugh at the things she says, but also respect her as a hunter.
Who knows how to lớn use a flamethrower?
DonnaWhile I knew Jody would ask Claire to stay behind -- the whole death prophecy had everyone on edge -- she had khổng lồ know Claire would eventually show up at the abandoned building.
When it came down to it if Claire had stayed behind it didn"t mean Patience vision would just never come true. Claire wanted khổng lồ be there for the guys especially after the numerous times they have saved her.
Was anyone else a little irritated with the way Kaia was killed? The poor girl had maybe one day to lớn have some happiness, and then bam, she"s dead.

I was hoping we"d get more on her backstory. I"m also disappointed we won"t see more bonding between her và Claire. It also wasn"t a huge shock when the person in the hood turned out lớn be Kaia -- it made the most sense.
It was also disappointing not seeing more of the other world. I was kind of hoping the guys would have been stuck there for at least another episode khổng lồ see more exploration of the world. Guess we will just have khổng lồ count on Jack lớn save Mary now.
In the end, it was pretty heartwarming seeing the ladies comes together and have a nice dinner. The chemistry between all the actors is wonderful. I have to lớn say they hit it out of the park with this backdoor pilot.
